Sarracenia catesbyi
Sarracenia x catesbaei is a rarely offered, naturally-occurring hybrid pitcher plant is found in coastal plains regions from Virginia to South Carolina. Sarracenia x catesbaei (Sarracenia purpurea x Sarracenia flava) has features that are intermediate between the parents. The 15" tall brick-red and yellow-veined pitchers are held upright...until they fill with water at which time they reflex to a 45 degree angle. In late spring before the new pitchers form, the clumps are topped with 15" tall flower stalks ending in stunning display of bizarre flying saucer-like brick-red flowers. Like all sarracenias, moist toes, and dry ankles are the key to success.
