Salvia Indigo Spires
Salvia 'Indigo Spires' is a 1979 introduction from California's Huntington Botanical Garden. Selected by California horticulturist, John MacGregor, Salvia 'Indigo Spires' arose as a cross of Salvia farinacea x Salvia longispicata. Salvia 'Indigo Spires' forms an upright 3' tall clump, topped with arching spikes of dark blue-purple flowers throughout summer and until frost. The unusual, twisting flower spikes create a form of their own in the garden. For increased hardiness, don't cut the stalks back until spring!
