Epimedium perralchicum Frohnleiten
Epimedium 'Frohnleiten' is a spectacular hybrid (Epimedium perralderianum x Epimedium pinnatum ssp. colchicum) from Germany's Heinz Klose. In April (NC), Epimedium 'Frohnleiten' boasts superbly red-mottled, newly-emerging, heart-shaped, green leaves. The clumps are topped with panicles of large butter-yellow flowers...a great woodland specimen. Epimedium 'Frohnleiten' is a spreading fairy wing (6-8" per year), whose foliage remains evergreen from Zone 6 southward, although we shear it back just prior to flowering.
