Carex howei Bonnie and Clyde
Carex howei 'Bonnie and Clyde' is a 2010 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of our selection of a sedge that's native from Maine south to Texas. We previous sold this as Carex retroflexa, which was a mis-identification. Carex howei can be found naturally in boggy meadows and swamp forest stream banks. Our particular form is one we collected in 2004 from northern Louisiana's Bienville Parish, where the infamous Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were gunned down in 1934. For us, Carex howei 'Bonnie and Clyde' has made a stunning, very fine textured, mop-top form, which is a nice complement to the bold textures of hostas and heucheras. Thriving best in full to part sun, each clump forms a 15" tall x 18" wide mound, tallest in spring when flowering. We have seen a bit of seeding in moist sites which is fine with us. We think you'll love this as much as we do.
